The secret to a crisp toastie is buttering the OUTSIDE of the bread, not the inside. Butter on the outside fries the bread; butter on the inside mixes with the cheese and leaves the toastie greasy. A small detail with a very different result.
Ingredients
For the toast
Optional
Method
-
Butter the bread
Butter the OUTSIDE faces of the bread, not the inside.
-
Fill it
Spread the kaşar between the two slices, adding tomato and oregano if you like.
-
In a toastie maker
Heat the machine and cook the toasties for 6 minutes, until the cheese melts and the bread browns.
-
In a pan
Without a machine, cook them in a covered pan over a low heat for 3 minutes a side. Put a weight on top.
-
Serve
Cut and serve while hot.
Tips
- Butter the outside of the bread; butter on the inside will not make it crisp.
- Slice the tomato thinly and take out the seeds, as the juice soaks the toastie.
- If you are using a pan, press it down with a saucepan lid.
