These take their Turkish name from how they are made: the dough is not firm enough to shape but loose enough to drop from a spoon. That is why they are ready in fifteen minutes. Because they spread in the oven, leave plenty of room on the tray.
Ingredients
For the dough
Method
-
Beat the butter
Beat the butter and sugar for 4 minutes, add the egg and mix.
-
Add the dry ingredients
Add the flour, baking powder and vanilla and mix. The dough should be loose enough to take with a spoon.
-
Add the chocolate
Stir in the chocolate chips if you are using them.
-
Drop onto the tray
Drop spoonfuls onto a lined tray, leaving plenty of space between them.
-
Bake
Bake at 180 degrees for 18 minutes, until the edges colour.
-
Cool
Leave on the tray for 5 minutes and move to a rack.
Tips
- Leave plenty of space on the tray; the biscuits double in the oven and run into each other.
- If the dough is stiff, add a tablespoon of milk, as it should come off a spoon.
- Take them out while the middles still look soft, as they firm up on cooling.
